colour burst

This week in the studio I've been gathering all the little orphan pieces of glass laying on my desk. I've had a lot of fun making new necklaces combining four of these little delights. They will be available at the BiDM tomorrow.

Where: Saint Augustine's Church Grounds and Hall. Racecourse Road Hamilton.

Time: 9am - 4pm

through Sandrine's eyes

looseleaf.paper

I really enjoy looking at my work through the eyes of someone else. It's so nice to see things featured and framed in a different way. Sandrine Marsh of Sandrine Marsh Accessories took these lovely images of stalls at the GoMA Christmas market on Saturday. There are more over on the brisstyle blog.

Thanks Sandrine x

Markit

I love/want/need the cloud cushion by harvest textiles in this poster! This year has gone by so quickly, it's been a busy year filled with fun and exciting things behind the scenes here at hot toffee. Now the year is at the point where is goes by at light speed. The May Markit was lots of fun and I'm looking forward to having a stall at the November one. I'm working on some special little treats with my treasure box of 'mistakes' that will only be available at upcoming markets and possibly in my big cartel shop. I'll pop back in soon with more details!

the winner of my little giveaway...

The silly season is quite silly indeed! I've been working seven days a week and my stock answer when people ask me how I am these days is 'busy but GOOD'. The brisStyle market was fantastic I just wish I had a helper on the day so I could have seen all the amazing talent there. The Young Designers Market was yesterday and the sweetest, sweetest lady came up to me and said 'I've just been sitting in the restaurant across the road and could see you are struggling with the heat so I asked them for some water for you' and with that she handed me a large milkshake cup full of icy water! This very thoughtful gesture brought tears to my eyes - it really is the people you meet in life that make it so special ...not only the people you know and love but the people we all walk past everyday or have brief encounters with. Later in the day I walked over to the restaurant for another drink and the waitress said proudly with a smile 'that was my mum who gave you the water' and of course I replied with 'ohhh she was so sweet' and the waitress said again with a proud smile 'I know and she's mine'.

What a great weekend for shopping in Brisbane!

love markets?

Brisbane is an exciting city to be in this weekend with the mathilda's market at Brisbane City Hall tomorrow from 9am - 1pm. Across the river at Southbank Young Designers Market is where hot toffee will be from 10 am - 4pm. Last but certainly not least and possibly the most exciting at the beautiful Old Museum the finders keepers markets are on for the first time in Brisbane. I've just come home from visiting and they are fantastic - such an amazing line up of talent! They are on until 9pm tonight and again tomorrow from 10 am - 5 pm. Now all you have to do is choose which one you'll visit or google Queensland Rail to start working out the best way to visit them all!!

Scotland Yard Antiques

We discovered Scotland Yard Antiques* late last year when my parents were staying with us for the weekend, we drove out to Esk for lunch and through Marburg on the way home. We just had to stop when we saw this shop! I've been meaning to visit again but hadn't done so until last Sunday after the New Earth Markets. This is the kind of antique shop you walk into and can't help but say 'look at that', 'look at this' and 'ooohhh look at that'. With furniture, mirrors, chandeliers, toys, ornaments, pictures, signs, suitcases...it is quite exciting...even the cobwebs make me happy! The shop is filled to the brim and items spill out onto the street and into another little shop 2 doors up.

*Scotland Yard Antiques - Corner Queen & Edmond Streets, Marburg. Open 7 DAYS!

a very busy market...

a section of my stand on Saturday

finally got my hands on peppermint magazine

this brooch by Olivia kept catching my eye + calling my name :)

handmade buttons by Bec + Jade's dad - talented family!

beautiful embossed gift tags by flight industries..

I still can't believe how many people came to the BrisStyle Indie Designers market on Saturday. For at least 2 hours straight the hall was filled with a sea of excited souls and after that still a constant flow of lovely souls who appreciate handmade products. Towards the end of the day I was lucky enough to have a quick walk around the markets, the above items were my purchases - I would love to have bought more and am saving my pennies for the BrisStyle Christmas Market which I have a feeling will be even bigger + better than Saturday - if that is possible? I'm definitely planning to set up early so that I can have a look around the market before it even starts and treat myself to more handmade treasures...
